Meta is actively seeking a highly motivated and experienced attorney to join the eDiscovery & Information Governance Team within its Legal Department. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in providing legal and strategic advice regarding information governance and records management to legal and business partners. This individual should be a skilled attorney and influential communicator capable of collaborating with teams across the company to develop cutting-edge solutions and best practices related to the information lifecycle, including records retention and disposition needs. Reporting directly to the Head of Information Governance, this role will also involve developing best practices and offering legal guidance to Meta’s global litigation, regulatory, investigation, and product teams.
Lead Counsel, eDiscovery & Information Governance Responsibilities:
- Legal and Regulatory Expertise: Maintain strong subject matter expertise in U.S. and global legal and regulatory obligations related to information governance and records management.
- Defensible Strategies: Drive and implement defensible strategies and workflows for managing the information lifecycle, covering the creation, receipt, maintenance, use, preservation, retention, and disposition of records.
- Case Law and Precedent: Stay updated on case law and legal precedent related to the preservation of ESI (Electronically Stored Information), including the duty to preserve, legal hold notices, and their intersection with records retention obligations and information governance strategies.
- Internal Policies: Advise on internal policies concerning the creation, use, retention, and disposition of company information.
- Systems and Tools: Contribute meaningfully to the design, execution, and management of internal and third-party systems and tools.
- Evidence Maintenance: Develop efficient processes for capturing and maintaining evidence of and information related to business activities.
- Vendor Management: Assist with the management of information governance vendors and the operation of information governance tools.
- Issue Resolution: Rapidly identify, analyze, and address complicated issues and communicate findings concisely in cross-functional settings.
- Litigation Support: Apply information governance and records management knowledge when partnering with in-house and outside counsel on active litigation, regulatory, and investigation matters.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the eDiscovery and Information Governance team, case and policy teams, business partners, outside counsel, and vendors.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of work experience at a law firm, government agency, or in-house with a focus on e-discovery and information governance.
- Information governance and records management experience, along with experience with structured and unstructured data and related technology and tools.
- Experience in problem-solving, strategic thinking, and working under tight deadlines, both individually and in a team environment.
- Well-developed organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- J.D. degree and membership in at least one U.S. state bar.
Preferred Qualifications:
- In-house technology company experience.

Salary Range: $163,000/year to $224,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
